Behavioral Health Consultant
Clinical
BASIC FUNCTION:
The primary responsibility of the Behavioral Health Consultant is to provide consultation and co-management services in the treatment of mental health disorders and psychological issues. The Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) - Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) will work within an integrated care setting, collaborating with primary care providers to deliver comprehensive behavioral health services to patients. The BHC will provide brief, evidence-based interventions, assessments, and consultations, and counseling to improve patients' overall health and well-being.
JOB DUTIES AND COMPETENCIES
1. Provide brief, focused interventions for clients who are in need of mental health services
2. Monitor and coordinate the delivery of health services for clients as related to behavioral health care, including linking with other treatment providers not only in the primary care setting but, with clients’ permission, outside it as well.
3. Conduct client intakes, focusing on diagnostic and functional evaluations, then make recommendations to the primary care team
4. Assist the primary care provider in recognizing, treating, and managing mental health and psychosocial issues and acts as a contributing member to the primary care team
5. Helps the clients, where indicated, to cope with chronic conditions like pain and diabetes
6. Assists the clients in complying with any medical treatment initiated by primary care provider, such as offering strategies to cope with medication side effects
7. Initiate’s follow-up to ascertain how clients are doing and to determine if any changes in treatment approaches are indicated
8. Recognizes and treats mental disorders and psychological problems including Anxiety, Depression, and PTSD, alongside the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Primary Care Provider.
9. Provides clients with self-management skills and educational information needed so they can be full participants in their own treatment and recovery
10. Documents client’s progress and diagnostic information in the treatment chart
11. Assist to the extend feasible, in the client’s community functioning by helping with public benefits, vocational rehabilitation, social support, housing, ect;
12. Provides consultation to clinic management and other team members about behavioral services and suggested areas of outcome and program evaluations
13. Maintains records of program activity, including licensure, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
14. Perform other job duties as required.
15. Attend meetings as directed.

BILLING JOB DUTIES:
Works with practice management to improve Mental Health department specific billing-related efficiency.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
1. Licensed Clinical Social Worker
2. Ability to serve pediatric and adult populations preferred
3. Prior medical office experience required
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Analytical skills involved in the evaluation of various business lines. Familiarity with financial billing and coding practices. The ability to communicate with individuals at a variety of levels within the organization and community. Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and decision making. Ability to handle multiple projects to meet deadlines. Ability to make independent decisions. Willingness and ability to work collaboratively with a team approach to goals and objectives.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Able to sit at a desk for up to 4 hours at a time.
2. Able to bend to reach items on the floor, desk level, and overhead.
3. Able to lift books and supplies weighing 40 lbs. intermittently.
4. Able to see clearly and hear normal speaking tones.
5. Able to communicate verbally interpersonally and over the telephone in a clear and concise speech.
