Position Summary
The CARE Driver/Counselor reports to the Recreation Program Specialist and requires a highly motivated person who has a passion for serving children. As a CARE Driver, this person will be responsible for safely driving children to and/or from school, while maintaining good relationships and boundaries with each child involved. Successful candidates will be responsible, dependable, and enjoy working with school-age children. Starting Rate: $14 per hour. Work Hours: 7am-9:30am and 2pm-4:30pm Monday - Friday.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Have a clean driving record.
Ability to drive 15 passenger van or noncommercial vehicle.
Exhibit excellent verbal interpersonal communications skills to facilitate effective interactions with staff, children, parents, and school staff.
Sensitivity to the needs of children and staff, from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
Computer skills: Word, Excel, E-mail, and Internet navigation.
Valid North Carolina state driver’s license.
Ability to lift up to 40lbs.
Must pass drug screening and background check process.
Must be at least 20 years of age.
Preferred
AAS Degree in Child Care or Education
At Least 12 Months Of Prior Childcare Experience Preferred.
First aid/CPR Certification
Duties & Responsibilities
Transport children to or from school.
Preform daily checks of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, fuel, and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order. Report any van malfunctions or needed repairs. Refill gas as needed.
Comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
Help children follow safety rules while boarding and exiting vans, and while escorting children across roads and parking lots.
Complete van checks to ensure all students and items have made it off the van.
Maintain Attendance records of children getting on and off the van.
Keep van interiors clean for passengers.
Initiate a calm transportation experience for children, adjusting temperature, sounds, and enforcing rules as needed.
Build positive relationships with parents, staff, and volunteers.
Maintain strict confidentiality, objectivity, and professional boundaries with children, and staff.
Attend and actively participate in quarterly staff meetings and accept responsibility for the development of positive team relationships.
Establish and maintain good working relationships with school staff.
Assist the Lead CARE Counselor with classroom duties.
Other duties as assigned.
