Position Overview

The College of Social Work and the Ohio State regional campuses offering Social Work programming rely on lecturers to provide instruction for many courses in the undergraduate BSSW and graduate MSW programs. Lecturers from our communities bring extensive knowledge and expertise to the classroom based on their educational backgrounds and practice experience. Their efforts enrich the curriculum for our students and they provide a perspective that keeps our curriculum anchored in current issues and practices from the field.

These are part-time semester lecturer positions expected to begin in either Spring 2025 or Autumn 2025.

Individuals interested in becoming a lecturer for the College of Social Work or an Ohio State regional campus please apply for this position.

Performance Objectives

Education

Lecturers are an essential component of social work education in the College of Social Work as we strive to provide quality instruction to our students. In an effort to provide a consistent educational experience for students, lecturers are expected to provide an outstanding educational experience by:

  • Following the course syllabus for each course that has been developed by the College’s program committees;
  • Utilize Carmen Canvas as the Learning Management system to post your syllabus, allow students to submit work for grading, maintain your course grade book, and provide other resources/materials, as applicable for students use in the Carmen Canvas shell.
  • Attending course planning meetings to coordinate with other course instructors on class readings, assignments, exercises, and grading rubrics;
  • Grading student assignments and providing written comments and feedback to students in a manner that is consistent with the timelines set by the Ohio Department of Higher Education and The Ohio State University;
  • Reporting final grades on time;
  • Reporting any instances of academic misconduct;
  • Following up with students who are granted incompletes and ensuring that final grades are submitted; and
  • Being accessible to students by email or phone outside of class and having office hours for individual student meetings. If hired, all OSU business should be conducted using the OSU email account assigned to you.

Required: Master’s degree in Social Work and a minimum of two years of post-graduate social work experience, or Master’s degree in a related field and a minimum of two years of post-graduate professional experience

Desired: MSW and a minimum of two years of post-graduate social work experience
