About Job

A non-profit victim services agency is seeking a qualified and compassionate Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking Counselor to provide trauma-informed counseling to survivors of sexual violence, commercial sexual exploitation, and human trafficking. The counselor will deliver individual and group therapy to clients in both residential and non-residential settings, and will play a key role in supporting the healing and recovery of individuals who have experienced significant trauma.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to adult and adolescent survivors of sexual assault, sex trafficking, and exploitation.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments and develop personalized, trauma-informed treatment plans.
  • Deliver crisis intervention, safety planning, and emotional support tailored to each survivor’s needs.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to address trauma, dissociation, PTSD, complex grief, and co-occurring concerns.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, medical providers, legal advocates, and other professionals as part of a coordinated care team.
  • Provide services in a variety of settings including the agency’s office, residential programs, and community-based partner locations, as needed.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and community response efforts.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in compliance with agency, funder, and licensing requirements.
  • Advocate for client needs and support referrals to housing, legal, medical, and mental health resources.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or a related field required.
  • Valid LMSW (or higher) licensure in New York State required.
  • At least 1–2 years of clinical experience working with survivors of sexual violence and/or human trafficking preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of trauma-informed and survivor-centered approaches to care.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic modalities such as TF-CBT, EMDR, Seeking Safety, and expressive therapies is a plus.
  • SIFI certification preferred.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide culturally responsive services and work effectively across systems.
  • Reliable transportation and flexibility to travel to multiple service sites within Nassau County.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred

Work Environment:
This is a full-time, in-person position based in Nassau County. Occasional evening and/or weekend hours may be required to accommodate client needs or respond to emergencies.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 per year
