Position: Certified / Registered Substance Abuse Counselor
Schedule: Monday - Friday - 5:30 am - 2:00 pm

Experience: Substance Abuse Counseling: 1 year (Preferred)
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team at our San Diego location. The ideal candidate will help provide direction and support for our patients. In this role, you will be responsible for developing treatment and recovery plans, and identifying behaviors that impede rehabilitation. You may also be required to facilitate individual therapy sessions.
Substance Abuse Counselor Job Functions
- Manages all aspects of patients from date of entry to date of discharge.
- Evaluating patients' physical and mental behaviors.
- Developing appropriate treatment and recovery plans.
- Monitoring patients over time to access treatment progress.
- Collaborates with doctors and nurses.
- A SUD counselor has the overall responsibility for counseling and oversight of assigned patients.
- Facilitates individual and/or group therapy sessions and completes comprehensive assessments, interpretive summary and individualized addiction treatment plans.
- SUD counselor maintains the client records and adheres to all State, Federal, Accreditation and Program regulations and performs duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Clinic Manager.
- Identifying behaviors that interfere with treatment and recovery.
- Assisting primary caregivers to manage addiction-related behavior.
Substance Abuse Counselor Requirements:
- Must be Certified with CADTP, CAADE, or CCAPP per California DHCS regulations or have the desire to train to become a substance abuse counselor.
- Associate degree in chemical dependency counseling, or a bachelor's degree with coursework in chemical dependency. (Preferred)
- Experience with medication assisted treatments. (Preferred)
- Previous experience with the treatment of substance abuse disorders. (Preferred)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a compassionate nature.
This position requires that applicants be Registered Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor: Must be registered by one of the agencies accredited by the NCCA and recognized by DHCS, which include CADTP and CCAPP; and who must adhere to all requirements of the California Code of Regulations, Title 9, Chapter 8 and Title 9..
- Maintain compliance with the requirements for continuing education hours and/or units (CEH or CEU) as determined by the Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs and/or other regulatory agencies.
