- Meet with students throughout the school year to assess their academic and social progress.
- Mediate when issues arise between students and teachers.
- Mediate when student behavioral issues arise with the Deans. In addition, work with the Deans when needed on issues of student comportment.
- Assist students with scheduling of classes for subsequent years.
- If needed, help students with psycho-social issues that may arise and refer students out to professional therapists or programs. Also refer students to the Social Worker.
- Help students to learn and utilize the Naviance computer program.
- Guide students when they take the PSAT, ACT and SAT tests.
- Meet with parents as needed.
- Work with students as they navigate the college selection and application process.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Master’s Degree in School Counseling or Social Work and Type 73 certification required.
- At least 2 years of experience in student counseling.
- Ability to counsel students from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds and with varying learning styles and academic abilities;
- Strong technology/computer skills including familiarity with Naviance, Blackbaud, various on-line search engines, on-line forms, and facility using multiple technological tools;
- Excellent organizational skills, flexibility, and a willingness to collaborate with other members of the team;
- Creativity, enthusiasm and the ability to establish personal relationships with students and parents;
- Highly effective listening, writing, and public speaking skills;
- Demonstrated interest in being significantly involved in professional organizations;
- Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed; and
- High level of integrity, strong work ethic, and confidence.
