Summary

The division/section of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital is seeking a Board Electable/Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join a rapidly growing service that is undergoing an exciting expansion of its' clinical, education and research mission in a pre-eminent children's hospital and integrated pediatric healthcare system. The Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Hospital, Intensive Outpatient Program Medical Director Role will provide clinical care at both 6330 Bellaire and Woodlands locations.


The Medical Director, working in collaboration with the Division Chief and Division Clinic Chief, is responsible for creating and maintaining patient care activities in the Service that are in keeping with TCH and BCM missions, values, and goals.


This position provides potential for a mixture of clinical, education and research opportunities depending on the applicant's interest and experience. Successful candidates should be eligible for faculty appointments at Baylor College of Medicine at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels.

Job Duties

  • Coordinating Cross-Mission Patient Care within Psychiatry
  • Partner with Program Directors in Clinical, Research, and Training areas to create, disseminate, and implement patient-care policies and procedures
  • Maintain partnerships and provide oversight of clinical program development and patient-care activities across locations (Medical Center and Woodlands)
  • Participate with other clinical leaders within division of Psychiatry to manage patients through care continuum.
  • Participates as Division of Psychiatry faculty representation in TCH committees, workgroups, and project teams.

Additional Duties

Ensuring Responsible Clinical Practice

  • Building and maintaining clinical practices that are responsive to organizational initiatives, such as increasing Access
  • In conjunction with the Chief, oversee and establish standards and provide counseling regarding issues of professionalism and behavior in providers specific to the Outpatient setting.
  • Provide direct patient care in the intensive outpatient setting.
  • Oversee organization and completion of clinic schedules for faculty and learners aligning to organizational expectations for clinical time.
  • Manages family complaints and crisis situations as they arise.
  • Partner with Practice Administrator and Service Chief on strategic planning, development and implementation of Ambulatory and TCH wide initiatives.
  • Partners with administrative leaders of all outpatient clinics to ensure faculty meet operational and clinical requirements.
  • Determine quality metrics, and tracking.
  • Provide quarterly outcomes reports to Behavioral Health governance structure.
  • Facilitate and present patient progress through designated Care Team meetings.
  • Oversee admission, management, and discharge of patients to Intensive Outpatient Program.
  • Partner with Program Director, Program Manager, and administrative leadership for design, education and implementation of program curriculum.
  • Maintain financial stewardship of program in coordination with Administrative Leadership.
  • Continue current teaching, mentorship, and supervision activities within existing Psychiatry training programs.
  • Leads fellow orientation to outpatient clinic in partnership with Fellowship site director at IOP location.
  • Attend and participate in resident and fellowship clinical competency meetings with training directors.


Minimum Qualifications

  • M.D. or equivalent.
  • Certification/Licensure: Licensed by the Texas Medical Board.
  • Training and/or experience in providing multidisciplinary evaluation and intervention
  • Experience working in an academic medical center
  • Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong leadership/communication skills
