Job Summary:
The Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) will provide basic behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to mentally or developmentally disabled patients/youth in a correctional setting. Working under the direction of Registered Nurses and Physicians, the LPT ensures the delivery of effective mental health services in compliance with institutional standards and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience: 36 continuous months of recent experience in a public or private institution (within the last 5 years). Internships not accepted.
- Licensure: Active and valid California license from the Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technicians.
- Language Proficiency: Must read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide psychiatric nursing care and behavioral support to patients/youth.
- Perform daily rounds and monitor individuals with mental illness symptoms.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments, including injections.
- Record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration.
- Support the development of treatment plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
- Lead or assist in individual and group therapy sessions.
- Coordinate clinical appointments and ensure patient attendance.
- Act as liaison with custody staff to manage behavioral issues.
- Respond to emergencies with CPR and first aid support.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation per facility requirements.
- Contribute to a safe and therapeutic environment.
