About the Role:

Excel Medical Staffing is seeking a licensed Psychologist or Psychiatrist to conduct one-time, non-treatment disability assessments for U.S. Veterans. This is a clinical evaluation role with no ongoing care or prescription duties. All documentation is completed electronically and submitted to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to support compensation and pension claims.

This position is primarily in-person, but telehealth options may be available depending on needs.

Assignment Duties:

• Start: 7/14
• Charlotte, NC
• Part Time: Mon, Tues, Weds 8a-6p (4-5 exams per day)
• Clinic setting

Responsibilities:

• Conduct detailed reviews of veterans' medical and service history
• Complete Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and Medical Opinions (MOs) through EMR systems
• Clearly explain the exam process and discuss claimed conditions with veterans
• Submit completed exams within 24–48 hours
• Administer and interpret psychological assessments as needed
• Ensure protocols are followed in case of behavioral or medical emergencies
• Provide compassionate service, including support for veterans with service animals

If Telehealth Exams Are Requested:

• Troubleshoot basic IT issues with veterans
• Maintain professionalism in a virtual environment
• Navigate and document via virtual platforms effectively

Key Skills & Attributes:

• Strong time management and independent work ethic
• Proficient in EMR systems and Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to interpret and analyze medical records and data
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable collaborating with both on-site and remote teams
• Computer and technology proficient

Required Qualifications:

• Active license as a Psychologist or Psychiatrist in at least one U.S. state
• Psychiatrists/Neurologists must be board certified or have completed a 2-year residency
• Psychologists must hold a PhD or PsyD in Psychology (Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology only)
• Child-focused psychology programs are not accepted
• Degree from an APA-accredited doctoral or post-doctoral program
• Demonstrated professionalism and a patient-first mindset

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in clinical settings
• Prior experience with the VA or conducting C&P (Compensation & Pension) exams
