What you’ll do
As a Community Engagement Specialist, you’ll work closely with the project manager as the day-to-day lead to develop and execute communications programs that inform the public of important community initiatives, comprehensive public education initiatives to inform and educate the community about complex infrastructure-related projects, local and statewide programs and activities. Our initiatives provide feedback that helps our clients steer their initiatives, as well as reflect community vision and values in their plans.
This is a full-time, in-office position in Austin, Texas. You’ll help CD&P deliver excellent communications through:
• Supporting the development of communication and public engagement plans under the direction of the project manager.
• Leading day-to-day implementation to maximize the engagement of local communities in project development.
• Developing materials that explain complex topics. This includes but is not limited to fact sheets, presentations, website content, media releases, social media plans, letters to stakeholders and elected officials, etc.
• Planning and conducting outreach activities, including block-walking, calls and emails, and pop-up community events, etc.
• Planning and attending public meetings, open houses, and other community events (ground breakings, ribbon cuttings, etc.)
• Working some evenings and weekends as needed to support public engagement meetings and client initiatives
• Performing other duties as needed
What you’ll bring
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communications Studies, Advertising, Journalism, or related field; or comparable experience and training.
• A minimum of three years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, event planning, customer service, or related field.
• Experience with and understanding of public involvement.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Professionalism, responsibility, organization, and reliability.
• Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT).
• Ability to communicate objectively and professionally about controversial topics with impassioned members of the public.
• Ability to work with tight and competing deadlines, frequent interruptions, and changes in priorities.

- Salary range of $55-70K, dependent on qualifications and experience. Annual bonuses of up to 5% of salary based on merit.
