We are searching for an Service Coordinator - Plastic Surgery -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will support excellence in clinical practice and the care of patients in accordance with their developmental stages. The Service Coordinator will help in the daily operations of the service by assisting the Managers by promoting the development of other nursing professionals, demonstrating clinical expertise, and implementation of the departmental standards of nursing practice.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the coordination of the surgical team (Scrub Nurse, Surgeon, and Anesthesiologist) as documented on the Intraoperative Nursing Record.
  • Accountable for managing time and resources in a cost-effective manner. Uses supplies and equipment appropriately, replacing unused supplies and equipment in their appropriate storage areas. Communicates delays or changes in the surgery schedule to the Charge Nurse.
  • Coordinates, organizes, and supports all activities of designated specialty service, e.g., CHSS, ENT, Eye/Dental, General, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Plastics, Urology, and Transplant. To include but not limited to staffing of competent team members; availability of supplies and equipment; avoidance of scheduling conflicts relating to equipment, supplies; and maintaining procedure/preference cards. Acts as a liaison between the patient, physician, and operating room.
  • Assesses patients with input from the parent/family. Collects data and coordinates with multiple departments, laboratory, and other medical divisions; compiles reports according to guidelines as documented on the Preoperative/Holding Area Assessment form. Completes nursing assessment of the patient/family including biological, psychological, age-appropriate developmental, environmental, cultural, and spiritual needs in an organized and systematic manner as documented on the Preoperative Assessment and Intraoperative Nursing Record as observed by the supervisor.
  • Formulates, implements, and documents individual teaching plans based on patient/family assessment as observed by supervisor. Uses teaching strategies suitable for the learning ability of the patient/family as observed by the supervisor.
  • Demonstrates commitment to team, flexibility, professional interpersonal, communication, critical thinking, and customer service skills. Demonstrates consistent positive interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, and visitors to generate a feeling of trust and caring as observed by supervisor. Greets all patients, families, visitors, and coworkers in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner as observed by supervisor.
  • As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Required bachelor's degree in nursing accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing to obtain and maintain an RN license.
  • Required RN - Lic-Registered Nurses by the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact and BLS - Cert-Basic Life Support BLS – Cert-Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association
  • Required 1 year and 6 months of of operating room experience
