Career Counseling Manager
STEP SPRINGS – Located at 4525 NorthPark Drive, Colorado Springs

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- $50,000 Annually Non-Exempt

THE LAUNCH OF STEP SPRINGS
Step is replicating the Denver program in Colorado Springs. A building was purchased in 2024, and construction of the 50-bed residential facility is on schedule to be completed August 2025. The Career Counselor will be onboarded in August to begin shadowing/training in Denver (transportation available) and all other full-time staff will be hired by August to begin their shadowing/training. Step Springs staff will be in Colorado Springs full-time beginning in September. Step Springs is expected to open its doors October 1, 2025. STRUCTURE & TEAM
Step Springs’ Career Counseling Manager is a full-time hourly position, reporting to the Director of Programs. Standard schedule is M-F 12-8pm.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Career Counseling Manager plays a critical role in supporting residents of Step as they prepare for successful reentry into the workforce. Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Career Counselor provides individualized coaching and facilitates workshops focused on resume development, job search strategies, interview preparation, workplace professionalism, and long-term career planning.
This role requires a strong commitment to the recovery journey of residents, promoting self-sufficiency, accountability, and personal growth through a structured, supportive, and trauma-informed approach. The Career Counselor also collaborates closely with local employers, Recovery Support Managers (RSMs), and the Director of Programs to continuously improve career development programming and ensure alignment with Step’s mission.
Deliver job readiness workshops to residents during Orientation.
Introduce new residents to the Career Center and explain employment expectations and requirements.
Guide residents in identifying appropriate and attainable job and career goals.
Provide individual coaching to assist residents in overcoming employment-related barriers.
Build rapport with residents through regular meetings, check-ins, and informal engagement.
Support residents in setting SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) and monitor progress.
Provide accountability and encouragement to help residents achieve set employment goals.
Administer commendations or consequences in accordance with Step’s consequence process.
Accurately document all resident meetings and employment-related activities in Salesforce.
Conduct quarterly career growth meetings with residents at sober living homes and the primary facility.
Respond to employer inquiries and represent Step and its residents positively and professionally.
Build and maintain strong employer partnerships.
Maintain an up-to-date career development curriculum aligned with current hiring trends and job market standards.
Model professional behavior and apply cultural competency principles in all interactions.
Additional Responsibilities
Maintain complete and accurate resident files and documentation.
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrate respect, dignity, and professionalism with all individuals.
Recommend program improvements and innovative ideas to leadership.
Respond to all emails, calls, and internal communications promptly.
Notify the Director of Programs of any significant challenges or concerns.
Foster a team-oriented environment and participate in collaborative projects.
Complete all administrative duties and assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
Safeguard all Step property.
Follow and enforce all of Step’s policies and procedures. Always act in a safe manner.
Act as a good steward of program funds & resources.
Work a 40-hour week with the understanding that flexible schedules, overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required and would be compensated by the Federally mandated overtime pay law.
Drive safely and maintain all necessary personal insurance while on company business.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel required.
Experience in workforce development, vocational services, peer coaching, or case management preferred.
Must pass a criminal background check; no history of violence permitted.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong project/time management, coaching, leadership, and planning skills.
Mission-driven, self-starter who can meet deadlines, adapt to changing needs, and creatively solve problems.
