About Job

About Us

ALIGN Integrated Care and ALIGN Community & Treatment Services (ACTS) are trauma-informed, recovery-focused behavioral health organizations dedicated to supporting individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges. We offer comprehensive, person-centered treatment across outpatient, case management, intensive outpatient (IOP), and partial hospitalization (PHP) levels of care.

We are seeking a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) who is passionate about helping others reclaim their lives and is ready to make a meaningful impact in the recovery journey of our clients.

The Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) provides direct clinical support, psychoeducation, and case management to individuals diagnosed with substance use disorders (SUDs) and co-occurring conditions. The counselor facilitates group and individual therapy sessions, conducts assessments, and supports care coordination within a multidisciplinary treatment team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake assessments, biopsychosocial evaluations, create and review treatment plans, and ongoing clinical documentation.
  • Develop and update individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and clinical staff.
  • Facilitate evidence-based group sessions (e.g., CBT, relapse prevention, trauma-informed care).
  • Provide individual counseling and support motivational interviewing strategies.
  • Document all services provided in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Collaborate with case managers, peer recovery specialists, and providers to ensure coordinated care.
  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal regulatory standards, including DBHDS, HIPAA, and ASAM guidelines.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support clients with reentry, housing referrals, legal concerns, or employment navigation as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must hold an active CSAC or CSAC-S certification in the state of Virginia.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, human services, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 1–2 years experience working with individuals with substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge of ASAM criteria, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented treatment principles.
  • Strong communication, group facilitation, and clinical documentation skills.
  • Experience in community mental health or structured outpatient programs (Case Management, SAPHP, IOP) is a plus.
  • Must pass a background check and maintain required trainings (CPR, First Aid, etc.).
