The Hero: A Child Seeking Safety and Belonging
A refugee youth arrives alone in the U.S., placed in foster care in Washington, DC. They've endured trauma, displacement, and uncertainty. Now, they need more than shelter-they need someone to help them rebuild a future.
2. The Problem: A Complex Path to Stability
This young person is navigating:
  • A new country, language, and culture
  • Court hearings, school systems, and health appointments
  • Trauma from their past and anxiety about their future
Their foster parents want to help-but they need guidance too.
3. The Guide: A Skilled and Compassionate Social Worker
That's where you come in.
You're a licensed social worker (LGSW/LMSW) with a passion for advocacy, a talent for coordination, and a heart for youth in crisis. You understand the cultural, emotional, and legal complexities of this work, and you know how to navigate them with professionalism and empathy.
4. The Plan: Structured Support, Cultural Sensitivity, Lifelong Impact
As a URM Social Worker, you'll:
  • Meet with children at least twice a month for safety assessments and case planning
  • Collaborate with foster parents, teachers, attorneys, and healthcare providers
  • Refer and connect clients to vital services like medical care, legal aid, and life-skills programs
  • Maintain court-ready documentation and advocate across systems
  • Support youth toward independence and adulthood
You'll be the steady hand in the chaos. The consistent voice. The one who doesn't give up.
Qualifications
The Call to Action: Join Our Mission
We're looking for:
  • A licensed MSW (LGSW/LMSW)
  • Spanish Speaking required
  • Experience in child welfare or foster care
  • Strong skills in documentation, teamwork, and trauma-informed care
  • Cultural competence and deep compassion
  • Willingness to work in the field and participate in an on-call rotation

This is not a desk job. This is a life-changing, field-based role where your presence makes the difference.
6. The Stakes: The Cost of Inaction
Without you, these youth risk falling through the cracks-lost in a system they don't understand, without a voice or an advocate to guide them.
7. The Success: A Child Who Thrives
Because of your work, a 17-year-old refugee finishes high school, enters a training program, and finds stable housing. They are safe, connected, and hopeful. And you were part of that journey.
Are you ready to help write a new story for a child who had no say in how theirs began?
Apply today to become a Social Worker in our Unaccompanied Refugee Minor Program-and be the guide who helps a child become the hero of their own future.
