About Job
The Community Engagement Specialist will assist with coordinating business partnerships, donations, and sponsorships; community engagement events; and communications, programs, and activities that support the strategic mission and goals of the School Division. At the discretion of the Chief of Communications and Community Engagement, this position may be required to work evenings and weekends when necessary to fulfill the needs of the Division.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assists with implementing community engagement opportunities and programs that support the Division’s strategic plan
- Cultivates and promotes positive relationships with community organizations and businesses.
- Coordinates the Partners In Education program
- Manages the SCPS ROVER Community Bus request calendar and coordinates visits
- Secures donations and sponsorships for various programs, activities, and meetings
- Coordinates and facilitates special events, meetings, and activities
- Assists with managing the annual editorial calendar
- Develops staff and community e-newsletters
- Creates event promotional materials, e-newsletters, press releases, school news, and social media posts
- Communicates appropriately and effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Secures volunteers to support Division initiatives
- Seeks out opportunities and newsworthy stories in the division
- Develops relationships with school administrators to support student and staff initiatives
- Works with the chief of communications and community engagement to develop and analyze community engagement activities, communications to include social media, and events
- Demonstrates professionalism, tact, and diplomacy while representing the SCPS in meetings, through written correspondence and other roles
- Communicates verbally and in writing with the business and organizations to communicate agreement requirements, resolve inquiries, and report progress
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
Preferred- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Marketing, Business Administration, Public Relations or other related field
- Two (2) years of recent and successful job experience with increasing levels of responsibility, ideally on a communications team or related business area

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 12-Month (243 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually.
