Manara Academy is a mission-driven public charter school network committed to academic excellence, diversity, and holistic student development. We are currently seeking a proactive and student-focused Academic Guidance Counselor to serve both our district.

Academic Counselor – Job Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field (required).
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field (preferred).
  • Valid Texas School Counselor Certification
  • Background clearance through the Texas Education Agency (TEA) or designated fingerprinting service.
  • Minimum 3 years of Experience Preferred
  • Experience working in a diverse, high-need, or Title I school environment (preferred).
  • Familiarity with college and career readiness programs, graduation plans, and state academic requirements.
  • Texas graduation requirements and academic pathways (Foundation Plan, Endorsements, HB5, etc.).
  • Student assessment tools (STAAR, TELPAS, PSAT, SAT, ACT, etc.).
  • Transcript audits, credit recovery options, and scheduling.
  • Social-emotional development and support strategies.
  • Special programs such as 504, SPED, ESL, and Gifted & Talented.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to use student data to support academic planning and intervention.
  • Proficiency in education technology platforms (e.g., PowerSchool, TXeSPED, etc.).
  • Experience with Dual Enrollment, CTE, CCMR, AP course and exam scheduling, College Board Requirements
  • Experience with secondary readiness (FAFSA, college applications, scholarships)
  • Counsel students on academic goals, career paths, and personal development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to support student success.
  • Conduct student conferences and parent meetings regarding academic progress.
  • Facilitate testing and interpretation of results for academic planning.
  • Support implementation of SEL (social-emotional learning) and college readiness initiatives.
  • Commitment to educational equity and high expectations for all students.
  • Culturally responsive and student-centered.
  • Flexible, team-oriented, and responsive to school needs.
