Manara Academy is a mission-driven public charter school network committed to academic excellence, diversity, and holistic student development. We are currently seeking a proactive and student-focused Academic Guidance Counselor to serve both our district.
Academic Counselor – Job Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field (required).
- Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field (preferred).
- Valid Texas School Counselor Certification
- Background clearance through the Texas Education Agency (TEA) or designated fingerprinting service.
- Minimum 3 years of Experience Preferred
- Experience working in a diverse, high-need, or Title I school environment (preferred).
- Familiarity with college and career readiness programs, graduation plans, and state academic requirements.
- Texas graduation requirements and academic pathways (Foundation Plan, Endorsements, HB5, etc.).
- Student assessment tools (STAAR, TELPAS, PSAT, SAT, ACT, etc.).
- Transcript audits, credit recovery options, and scheduling.
- Social-emotional development and support strategies.
- Special programs such as 504, SPED, ESL, and Gifted & Talented.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to use student data to support academic planning and intervention.
- Proficiency in education technology platforms (e.g., PowerSchool, TXeSPED, etc.).
- Experience with Dual Enrollment, CTE, CCMR, AP course and exam scheduling, College Board Requirements
- Experience with secondary readiness (FAFSA, college applications, scholarships)
- Counsel students on academic goals, career paths, and personal development.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to support student success.
- Conduct student conferences and parent meetings regarding academic progress.
- Facilitate testing and interpretation of results for academic planning.
- Support implementation of SEL (social-emotional learning) and college readiness initiatives.
- Commitment to educational equity and high expectations for all students.
- Culturally responsive and student-centered.
- Flexible, team-oriented, and responsive to school needs.
