BCAT seeks Social Worker
Buffalo Center for Arts and Technology (BCAT) is seeking per diem Social Worker to support youth participants in our summer arts and enrichment programs. These professionals will offer responsive, student-centered support to help youth navigate social, emotional, and academic challenges that may arise during programming. As part of BCAT’s wraparound support approach, the Social Worker will provide targeted assistance that keeps students grounded, connected, and ready to engage fully in their summer learning experience.
This is an as-needed position with flexible scheduling based on student needs and staff referrals. Program hours are Monday through Thursday, 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and social worker availability will align with these afternoon hours.
Salary: $35/hr, up to 15 hours per week
Key Responsibilities:The Social Worker will meet with youth on a short-term or drop-in basis to provide immediate support and stabilization. They will help students work through personal or interpersonal challenges, process emotions, and develop simple, age-appropriate strategies for self-regulation and resilience. When necessary, they will connect students to caregivers or external resources for follow-up, always working from a strengths-based and youth-affirming approach.
In collaboration with BCAT’s instructional and student support teams, the Social Worker will help identify students who may benefit from additional emotional or behavioral support. They may also assist with classroom or group-based sessions focused on topics such as conflict resolution, emotional awareness, or stress management — adapted for youth in middle and high school age ranges.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) required; LMSW or LCSW preferred
- Experience working with youth in school, camp, or community-based settings
- Ability to build trust quickly and respond with empathy, structure, and appropriate boundaries
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, youth development, and restorative approaches
- Familiarity with local community resources and referral procedures for families
- Flexible availability during program hours, with capacity to accept short-notice referrals
- Commitment to BCAT’s mission and to creating a safe, creative space where youth can grow and thrive
