College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class. The MCG educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, with regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state, and two four-year campuses located in Athens (in partnership with the University of Georgia) and in Savannah (in partnership with Georgia Southern University). MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provide more than 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to approximately 575 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

Job Summary

This position will complete psychosocial assessments, prepare treatment plans, document individual progress through session interviews with individual and family members; and, review of individuals records. This position will act as an advocate for the individual by coordinating needed services, act as a liaison for the individual, present cases in court-settings to include Court testimony (Civil and Outpatient commitments), discharge planning, and case management. This position will coordinate with staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual treatment plan; as well as Supervises, guides, and/or instructs the work assignments of subordinate staff. Supervises and directs the clinical activities of a comprehensive behavioral health plan. Performs psychosocial assessments, treatment planning/ monitoring and discharge planning. Provides counselling/ therapy to clients requiring complex intervention. Completes Performance evaluations for subordinate staff in conjunction with social work chief.

Responsibilities

Conducts psychosocial assessments to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning
Completion of documentation, monitors, evaluates and records clients progress through individual sessions, interviews, and review of patient records
Provides counseling/therapy as directed by treatment plan to include family sessions
Discharge planning and case management services. Completes documentation for referrals to Community services
Acts as Hospital Access Coordinator for Individuals with language needs and Sensory Impairment
Assists in scheduling coverage for the Observation area

Participates in Social Work Council at East Central Regional Hospital, assists in the development of policies and procedures

Provides mentorship to new social work staff

Supervision - 35
Supervises and plans work of assigned staff
Collaborates in interview process for hiring of new staff or onboarding potential interns.
Attends and presents in meetings for the mental health units to address barriers to discharge and assist in reporting this information for statewide monitoring.
Serves as back-up leadership in the absence of social work chief in collaboration with other unit managers.
Provide back-up services for admission/ EATO units to address all individual needs.
Implements training for any new staff, interns, or staff in need of additional support and will keep documented record for file.
Acts as client advocate in order to coordinate required services to resolve crisis.
Counsels clients in individual and group sessions to help them overcome dependencies, recover from illness, and adjust to life.
Identify environmental impediments to client, of patient progress through interviews and review patient records.
May administer and coordinate services and activities of a specialized program
Monitors, evaluates, and records client progress according to measurable goals described in treatment and care plans.
Organize support groups or counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting the client.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Social Work practice or psychology from an accredited college or university and two years experience in field of study

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in working in fields: mental health, substance abuse, developmental disabilities, crisis intervention. Providing direct social work interventions. Two (2) years of practice in Social Work, may include one year internship in social work and/or related field.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)

Pay Band: 11

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
