Description of Work: The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that abused and neglected children in their own homes receive a minimum sufficient level of safety and care and/or removed from situations where that is not happening. Employees intervene actively in the environment on the client’s behalf as a provider of resources, locator of resources, interpreter of client’s need, mediator on client’s behalf, advocate for client and modifier of the environment. Employees act as a change agent, utilizing a problem-solving approach based on objective diagnostic study of the client in interaction with his/her environment. This is an advanced, professional level casework position providing protective, investigative, counseling and case management services for children who are at risk of neglect and/or abuse. Work involves investigation of alleged neglect and abuse, substantiation of the alleged neglect or abuse as prescribed by federal and state guidelines, providing expert testimony in court hearings, and following up with case management services for clients. Employees analyze situations and determine appropriate courses of action immediately or in short time spans and often under very stressful conditions. Employees may provide treatment to clients of any age and any developmental, mental, medical, substance abuse, financial or family program. Employees will report to a Social Work Supervisor III for general supervision. Employees may have combined investigative and treatment roles. Employees are obligated to respond to after hours, on-call emergencies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to complex casework, group work and community problems. Considerable knowledge of a wide range of medical, behavioral, and psychosocial problems and their treatment. Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques. Considerable knowledge of governmental and private organizations and community resources. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern the program. General knowledge of the methods and principles of casework supervision and training. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the caseload and their families as well as civic, legal, medical, social, and religious organizations. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.

Employee may be called upon in times of disaster, either natural or manmade to staff an evacuation shelter or handle other assigned duties. This is a requirement of the position and failure to serve may result in adverse action.

Minimum Education and Experience: Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work experience; Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative; Master’s degree in counseling or human services field and two years of directly-related experience; Bachelor in Social Work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative and one year of directly-related experience; Bachelor in Social Work from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; Bachelor’s degree in a human services field and three years of directly-related experience; Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and four years of directly-related experience.

Applicants who meet the qualifications listed for the Social Worker IAT will be given first consideration. Also, those with a Social Work degree from an accredited school of social work will be given preference, however, anyone who has a Human Services degree or a four-year degree may apply as “work against appointments” and will be considered.

Pay: $49,475.00 - $74,922.00 per year
