JOB TITLE: Early College High School
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt School Counselor
REPORTS TO: Principal PAY GRADE: Counselor Salary Schedule
(220 Days- High Schools)
DEPARTMENT: Assigned Campus
DATE REVISED: 5/2019
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance and
counseling services based on the defined needs of the population served.
Provide a guidance and counseling program to assist all students in
maximizing personal growth and development.
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Certification:
Master's Degree
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
Valid School Counselor Certification
Minimum Experience
Three (3) years teaching experience.
Three (3) Years Of School Counseling Experience Required.
Advanced Placement, Gifted and Talented, or Dual Credit experience,
preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of counseling procedures/techniques, student appraisal, and
career development
Knowledge of family and peer group dynamics
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Early College High School Responsibilities, But Not Limited To

under stress.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
Occasional prolonged and irregular hours; lifting and carrying of moderately heavy boxes of
testing materials.

Early College High School Responsibilities, But Not Limited To
- Understand the Criteria and process for dual credit enrollment, alignment of school and college
- Understand the TSI assessment, provide support for students, to include test taking strategies and
- Collaborate with DCCCD to develop individualized degree plans in higher education.
- Collaborate weekly with the Associate Principal for ECHS, High School Principal, and DCCCD
- Understand the master schedule process and work side-by-side with the principal to schedule
pathway/endorsement.
- Assist with coordinating and interpretation of all state assessments required for graduation as
- Participate in the summer bridge program for early college high school.
- Assist with the development of a college going culture by facilitating such activities as college
Program Management
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- PLANS, IMPLEMENTS, AND EVALUATES A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM OF GUIDANCE,
- Uses a planning process to define needs, priorities and program objectives.
- Implements a comprehensive and balanced program.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of individual activities and the over-all program in meeting desired
- Educates the school staff, parents and the community about the guidance program through a

- TEACHES THE SCHOOL DEVELOPMENTAL GUIDANCE CURRICULUM
- Outlines, in writing, a campus guidance curriculum consistent with the district's guidance
- Teaches guidance units effectively.
- ASSISTS TEACHERS IN THE TEACHING OF GUIDANCE RELATED CURRICULUM
- Consults with administrators and teachers regarding the teacher's areas of responsibility in
- Supports teachers in teaching "essential elements" identified in the SBOE Rules for
- GUIDES INDIVIDUAL AND GROUPS OF STUDENTS THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENTOF
- Involves students in personalized educational and career awareness.
- Presents relevant information accurately and without bias.
- COUNSELS INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS WITH PRESENTING NEEDS/CONCERNS.
- Provides counseling systematically.
- Responds to students individually.
- COUNSELS SMALL GROUPS OF STUDENTS WITH PRESENTING NEEDS/CONCERNS.
- Provides counseling in groups as appropriate.
- Provides group counseling systematically.
- USES ACCEPTED THEORIES AND TECHNIQUES APPROPRIATE TO SCHOOL
- Uses accepted theories.
- Uses effective techniques.
- CONSULTS WITH PARENTS, TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS AND OTHER RELEVANT
