Position Summary

The Director of College Counseling position encompasses significant leadership responsibilities in two of the three major stages of the total program of our school. Cristo Rey Brooklyn seeks to foster in our students meaningful college awareness, college access and college success. The Director of College Counseling (DCC) is actively engaged in the work of college awareness and college access.


The DCC must serve as an advisor and thought partner in collaboration with the Principal on best practices in college matriculation, persistence, and completion. The DCC must be an active member in the school community, modeling good communication, and full enforcement of school policies and student expectations at all times, including college fairs, trips and other events.


Major Responsibilities:


College Access: The first constituency of the Director of College Counseling is the senior class, their parents and guardians during the process of exploring, selecting, applying to and then obtaining sufficient financial support to attend college. The Director will have a caseload of seniors and supervise other counselors’ work with the remainder of the class.


Track all data of graduate matriculation. Track all scholarship and merit award data and acceptances.

➢ Nominate and manage college progress of CRN Scholarships (8 in total) each semester

➢ Nominate and manage Posse and Questbridge Scholarships

➢ Share information of other scholarships as they become available

➢ Serve as SSD Coordinator for students with learning disabilities for SAT and ACT exams.


College Awareness: The Director is responsible for promoting awareness and interest in college among students from all grades. The Director is responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of a college counseling curriculum for juniors and seniors, supervises other counselors who teach the course and will also teach sections of the College Counseling course.


College Persistence: The Director is responsible for managing and reporting on college enrollment, persistence, and completion data, utilizing resources such as the National Student Clearinghouse.


Complete an annual National Student Clearinghouse report to accurately receive enrollment and graduation information.

Check-in and report on college progress of CRN Scholarship recipients ( 8 in total) each semester.

➢ Identify and assist struggling students with targeted resources.

➢ Create resources promoting college success, career readiness, and job placement.

➢ Coordinate community-building alumni events.


The Director of College Counseling and the CC Team will also foster awareness through workshops offered throughout the year to students and their parents. The team will be required to:

➢ Plan college trips for all grade levels.

➢ Plan and host Instant Decision Days and College Signing Day.

➢ Attend CRN College Counseling Meetings (virtual and in person) including College Summit.


Other Responsibilities:

➢ Manage Decision Tracker and Gradforce

➢ Supervise and develop college counseling staff and other volunteers.

➢ Establish and sustain strategic partnerships with colleges and universities, host college fairs and visits by college representatives.

➢ Serve as a collaborative member of the School Leadership Team and the Academic Leadership Team.

➢ Manage the recommendation letter process for teachers, including professional development for faculty. College Counselors must write letters of recommendation for assigned students.

➢ Coordinate/serve as test coordinator for SAT/ACT throughout the academic year.

➢ Manage Gerstner Scholars Program

➢ Update School Profile as needed


Position Qualifications

● Master’s degree in school counseling is preferred but not required

● 4-5 years of relevant experience in college counseling/admissions is required

● Knowledge of Scoir Software is preferred

● Fluency in Creole or Spanish is a plus, not a requirement


Compensation and Benefits:

This is a 12 month position. The salary range for this position is $75,000-$90,000. The exact amount is commensurate with experience and education; it will be benchmarked with our peer local and Cristo Rey Network schools. Comprehensive benefits are included in the overall compensation package.
