Position Summary

We are currently hiring before and afterschool counselors for fall 2025. Employees participate in day-to-day programming of off-site before or after school programs, as well as homework assistance, academic enrichment, and family engagement events. This position requires high energy, enthusiasm for YMCA’s mission, and flexibility.

LOCATION AND HOURS:

Before school programs run weekdays from 6:30am - 8:30am.

Afterschool programs run weekdays from 2:45pm-6:00pm.

Programs are held at elementary schools near the Bill and Lillie Heinrich YMCA (4141 Meadows Lane).

Essential Functions

• Participates in regular trainings, meetings, and staff development;
• Ensures proper implementation of the YMCA of Southern Nevada’s Youth Development policies and procedures;
• Works closely with supervisors, school administration, parents, and teachers to implement strategies for student success;
• Ensures students sign in and out of the program daily;
• Ensures activities are delivered as intended;
• Maintains a safe and secure site location with established emergency procedures;
• Working with small groups and/or individual students;
• Implements fun and engaging after school activities
• Supports classroom and behavior management consistently to develop a safe and productive learning environment;
• Available afternoons during the weekdays Monday through Friday.
• Performs all other duties, as assigned.
  
  

Abuse Risk Management Functions

• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children.
• Attend required abuse risk management training.
• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Experience working in out-of-school-time programming, preferably within underserved communities
• Bi-lingual in English and Spanish, preferred
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Academic skills –proficiency in elementary math and literacy.
• Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse populations.
• Ability to build relationships with staff, students and families
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Love and respect for children.
• Working with Children within 30 days of hire.
• Current American Red Cross Certifications in CPR and First Aid within 30 days of hire
