IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Student Services

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The School Psychologist collaborates with Teachers, Parents/Guardians and School personnel to create safe, healthy and supportive learning environments for all students. The School Psychologist professionally addresses students’ learning and behavioral problems, suggests improvements to classroom management strategies or parenting techniques and evaluates students with disabilities and gifted students to help determine the best way to educate them. 

 

In this role, the School Psychologist will improve teaching, learning and socialization strategies based on the understanding of the psychology of learning environments, as well as evaluate the effectiveness of academic programs, prevention programs, behavior management procedures and other services provided in the school setting. He/she will contribute to and thrive in a multi-disciplinary team environment.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations of referred students.
  • Writes and reviews evaluation and re-evaluation reports.
  • Assumes responsibility for the accuracy, validity, and interpretation of assessment results as related to special education eligibility determination.
  • Ensures that student progress is evaluated on a regular, systematic basis and that findings are used in making decisions to improve program effectiveness as it relates to specific student needs.
  • Provides consultative services to school personnel regarding student needs.
  • Functions as a liaison between the school and family in the student assessment and interpretation of test results.
  • Responds to parent/guardian requests for evaluation.
  • Analyzes outcomes and evaluates instructional support programs to recommend appropriate changes in purposes, designs, materials and implementation.
  • Participates in child study meetings when referred students are involved.
  • Interprets diagnoses to school personnel, other concerned professionals, parents and students.
  • Assists in Implementing policies/regulations established by federal and state law.
  • Assumes responsibility for timely completion, maintenance and filing of all reports, records and other documents.
  • Makes independent objective decisions based on adequate analysis and information.
  • Conveys and instills high expectations for each student based on a fundamental philosophy that all students can learn.
  • Collaborates with the School Administration to ensure compliance for students with disabilities.
  • Collaborates with parents/guardians, and school personnel in sharing information about students, consistent with legal requirements, and recommends appropriate interventions for students in need of support services.
  • Explains and interprets special education-related policies and procedures to students, staff, and the community.

REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES:

  • Strategic Thinker with a passion for working with students and families
  • Masters Degree and Pennsylvania Certification as a School Psychologist
  • Pennsylvania Department of Education required clearances
  • Commitment to the EEACS mission and values
  • Excellent communication skills, especially with students and parents
  • Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Committed to personal professional growth.
  • Competent with current technology
  • Proof of U. S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

JOB STATUS:

 Full- time - ten month position - 7:45am to 3:45pm
