This direct care position earns acompetitive wageof$19.50 - $20.00/hour. This position averages between 4-12 hours per week with a maximum of 20 hours per week split between multiple staff. There are opportunities to have more hours when need arises. Shifts typically fall between 7-11am or 3-7pm depending on the day. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A YOUTH CARE COUNSELOR

As a Youth Care Counselor, you have the rewarding job of providing direct care to the youth in our program. In this alternative to juvenile detention setting, you work with the youth to create routines, build positive relationships, and develop a framework for them after they leave our care. Acting as a mentor, you provide opportunities for social learning. This includes implementing coping mechanisms and building a positive foundation for each youth. Additionally, you conduct daily activities for the youth based on their developmental ages and capabilities.

You perform behavior-shaping interventions, facilitate appropriate communications, model suitable problem solving, and help to ensure appropriate youth interactions. Using trauma-informed care (TIC)lens, you'll provide interventions for maladaptive behaviors resulting from trauma. Your empathy comes through in your interactions with each youth that you work with. You keep accurate records of daily activities and services provided in accordance with quality assurance and state licensing standards. Making a difference in the lives of youth gives meaning to the work you do.

You must be able to embrace diversity and inclusion, ensuring every youth feels valued and respected.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A YOUTH CARE COUNSELOR

  • Bachelor's degree along with 1 year of experience in mental health, social services, or a related fieldOR 2+ years of experience.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
