Housing Counselor needed for Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio, a large non-profit, single family home builder and social service provider. This position will work closely with the Assistant Vice President of Family Services to further develop and implement effective Homebuyer Selection and Partnership processes and provide counseling to prospective homebuyers and current Habitat homeowners.
Responsibilities include:
· Provide one-on-one counseling and education workshops to prospective homebuyers and current Habitat homeowners.
· Work closely with Housing Counseling Intermediary agency and ensure compliance with HUD data collection and reporting requirements.
· Oversee mortgage counseling to low-income applicants including initial credit analysis, referrals and case management as needed, and periodic follow-up when client appears to be a prospective applicant.
· Further develop home buying program application process, including application in-take, file assembly and maintenance, third-party fact verification, and all related communications and correspondence.
· Collaborate with Assistant Vice President on department goal achievement and data collection.
· Implement an effective tracking system to monitor the status of all clients’ files and information.
· Coordinate outreach and targeted marketing activities that reach low-income applicants meeting Habitat’s qualification profile.
· Oversee homeownership readiness educational activities.
· Lead Family Services staff in goal setting and achievement.
Qualifications include:
· Possess a current HUD Housing Counselor certificate or attain certification within the initial three months of employment.
· Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
· Minimum 2 years’ work experience in housing counseling, social services, or public service.
· Minimum 2 years work experience managing multiple programs, projects, or accounts.
· Bilingual with strong written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish.
· Goal and team-oriented, a positive attitude with a good sense of humor and great interpersonal skills.
· Great organizational and multi-tasking skills to meet deadlines with minimal supervision; Detail oriented with a big picture view.
· Proficient computer skills with independent operation and utilization of Microsoft Office software programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
· Must pass an initial and periodic background checks and have and maintain a Texas driver’s license and good driving record.
This full-time position generally works Monday-Friday. Normal office hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. however, exact hours will vary to accommodate some evening hours several days a month with occasional Saturday meetings and events.
