Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Location: Nashville, TN (On-site at Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute)
Salary: $102,408 - $163,416 per year
Job Overview:
Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute (MTMHI) is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to deliver specialized mental health care within our psychiatric hospital. This advanced clinical role involves the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with psychiatric disorders, organic brain syndromes, or substance abuse challenges. The practitioner will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and may participate in forensic evaluations. Responsibilities include prescribing psychotropic medications, performing mental status exams, and ensuring compliance with treatment protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
✅ Conduct physical and mental health evaluations, review patient histories, and determine psychiatric diagnoses and treatment plans
✅ Prescribe psychotherapy, psychotropic medications, and medical treatments in accordance with best practices and regulatory guidelines
✅ Perform and document psychiatric evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge planning
✅ Provide psychosocial counseling and patient/family education
✅ May conduct forensic evaluations to determine patient competency (upon completion of required certification)
Qualifications:
✔ Education & Experience: Education and Experience: Licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Registered Nurse with Advanced Practice certification and certificate of fitness, as well as current American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification in a psychiatric/mental health specialty area.
OR
Education and Experience: Licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Registered Nurse with Advanced Practice certification and certificate of fitness and experience equivalent to at least two years of full-time work as a licensed nurse practitioner providing inpatient or outpatient psychiatric care in private practice or in a community mental health, psychiatric hospital, or similar setting.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Licensed or eligible for licensure by the State of Tennessee as a Registered Nurse with Advanced Practice certification and certificate of fitness, as well as current American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification in specialty area. If assigned responsibility of conducting forensic evaluations, completion of Forensic Certification Training is also required. Licensure as a Registered Nurse with Advanced Practice Nurse certificate in the State of Tennessee and national certification in the appropriate nursing specialty area are required within 60 days after employment. Completion of Forensic Certification Training is required within 60 days of assignment.
