To direct and supervise the work of unit staff and support campers throughout their camp experience in accordance with standards set by Girl Scouts of the USA, the American Camp Association, and the New York State Department of Health.
KEY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise unit staff – delegate jobs, create daily schedules including breaks and meals, supervise on and off camp activities.
- In consultation with the Program Coordinator, guide the lead counselors in implementing Girl Scout Heart of the Hudson, Inc. programs (Badges, Journeys, etc.) and assist in facilitation as needed.
- Assume responsibility for health and safety of staff and campers, including but not limited to:
o Maintain a well-equipped first aid kit.
o Report accidents promptly.
o Keep nurse informed of health status of campers and unit staff. - Support staff in implementing camping activities, outdoor living, and increase understanding of children, camping, and Girl Scout program, philosophy, and objectives.
- Analyze and report to the Assistant Camp Director on activities and experiences of the campers based on reports by unit leaders and on individual observations.
- Supervise unit campers, sanitation, care of supplies and equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Successful completion of background check.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in camping and supervising children.
- Girl Scout experience preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Capable of lifting and carrying items over 15 lbs.
- Proficient in navigating rough terrain.
- Comfortable being active for extended durations.
