Job Summary

This position provides financial aid counseling to university students.

MAJOR DUTIES

Processes student financial aid applications; reviews supporting documents. Monitors daily/weekly reports, identifies discrepancies, and necessary actions needed.

Researches student files using online resources.

Prepares student awards. Determines and applies account corrections.

Counsels students on types of financial aid, financial aid policies and satisfactory academic progress requirements. Uses professional judgement to determine potential aid eligibility within the allowances of policy, procedures, and law.

Responds to questions and concerns from students, parents or guardians.

Certifies loans from alternative sources.

Requests documents from students to complete the financial aid process.

Completes document requested by external sources.

Collaborates with campus departments on student eligibility, scholarships, and other types of aid.

Travels to area high schools and makes presentations concerning financial aid processes and procedures.

Places non-attending students into repay process; calculates and processes repayments.

Enter budget information to BANNER system.

Successful candidates in this position will possess critical thinking skills, the ability to multi-task, and demonstrate the capability to navigate multiple systems independently.

Due to the nature of the information available, successful candidates must be able to incorporate the need for confidentiality into every aspect of the job.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge Required By The Position

This position requires completion of extensive onboarding modules, as well as regular participation

In federal, state, and professional trainings.

Knowledge of financial aid and related federal regulations.

Knowledge of data analysis and reporting.

Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.

Skill in decision making and problem solving.

Strong interpersonal skills and excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Student Financial Services Director and Assistant Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include the Federal Student Aid Handbook and university policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The work consists of varied financial aid counseling duties. Strict regulations contribute to the complexity of the position.

The purpose of this position is to provide financial aid counseling to university students. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the university’s financial services operations.

CONTACTS

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, faculty, staff, students, parents, representatives of other colleges and universities, and members of the general public.

Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to provide services, or to justify, defend or settle matters.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table.

The work is typically performed in an office.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

None.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Annual salary $36,084.00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time.
