HelpLine is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and highly organized individual to serve as a Suicide Prevention Educator I. This position plays a vital role in implementing suicide prevention programs in middle schools, high schools, and communities throughout Delaware and Morrow Counties. The ideal candidate is energetic, articulate, and collaborative, with a passion for engaging both youth and adults in meaningful prevention efforts. Responsibilities include building and maintaining school and community partnerships, supporting programming outreach efforts, maintaining records, and engaging and communicating at public speaking events. Knowledge of a broad perspective in terms of community suicide prevention. This position reports to the Suicide Prevention Program Manager. Full time 40 hours per week with some required evening and weekend hours, as needed. This position is eligible for Alternative Work Arrangement Schedule (hybrid).
RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitate engaging suicide prevention presentations to youth in grades 7–12 (typically 3–4 days per week), with multiple sessions scheduled each day
- Manage small/large classrooms of students in grades K-12
- Participate in suicide prevention coalitions in Delaware and Morrow Counties
- Build and maintain relationships with schools, community partners and coalitions
- Review and interpret data collected from schools, counselors, and the community
- Collaborate with other HelpLine departments, volunteers, and community partners
- Maintain accurate records and documentation required for grants and program evaluation
- Utilize technology and software tools to create, edit, and deliver presentations
- Work both independently and as part of the Prevention team to support overall program goals
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma AND a minimum of 2 or more years’ of applicable work, volunteer, and/or relevant lived experience in the field of mental health, human services, or prevention; OR
- Associate’s Degree AND a minimum of 1 or more years’ of applicable work, volunteer, and/or relevant lived experience in the field of mental health, human services, or prevention.
- Reliable transportation required, as well as driver insurability, and ability to pass a Motor Vehicles Report and a BCI background check
- Must obtain Ohio Prevention Registered Applicant (RA) credential within 3 months of hire
- Must obtain Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist Assistant (OCPSA) certification within the first year
- Requires flexibility in scheduling. The position includes early morning, some evening and weekend shifts, and the ability to travel to all three office locations.
- Excellent communication, written, public speaking, and networking skills
- Excellent organization and record keeping skills
PREFERRED
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field
- At least one year of experience in education, prevention, or youth engagement
- Previous experience in oral presentation or public speaking
- Experience and/or training in prevention, suicide risk assessment, mental health, or secondary education
