Overview
The Family Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive support to families facing various challenges. This position involves working closely with families to assess their needs, develop tailored intervention strategies, and facilitate access to resources. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mental health counseling, crisis management, and social work, enabling them to effectively guide families through difficult situations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments to identify family needs and strengths.
- Provide mental health counseling and crisis intervention services.
- Develop individualized support plans in collaboration with families.
- Offer mentoring and guidance to empower families in making positive changes.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to encourage family engagement.
- Facilitate access to community resources and services related to behavioral health and addiction counseling.
- Maintain accurate documentation of interactions and progress notes in accordance with agency policies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care for families.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- Demonstrate ‘lived experience’ as a parent or primary caregiver who has navigated multiple child serving systems on behalf of their child(ren) with social, emotional, developmental, health and/or behavioral healthcare needs.
- At a minimum, have a high school diploma OR high school equivalency preferred.
- Complete Level One and Level Two of the Parent Empowerment Program Training for Family Peer Advocates or approved comparable training.
- Submit three letters of reference attesting to proficiency in and suitability for the role of a Family Peer Advocate (FPA) including one from the FPAs supervisor.
- Strong skills in crisis intervention and mentoring techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions.

Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
