Supervisor: Program Director

Job Status: Full Time / 35hrs per week

Job Location: Hybrid in Office/ and Work from Home

Salary Range: $65k - $70k


Neighborhood Self Help by Older Persons Projects (SHOPP) is a dynamic and innovative non-profit organization that supports older adults, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities. SHOPP offers 12 essential programs, including CCNP (Community Care Network Program), 4 Older Adult Centers (Casa Boricua, Leon, Soundview, and Guess), NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities), Pop Up Café, Case Management with Friendly Visiting, Elder Justice, Caregiver Support Program, and NY Connects. SHOPP’s mission is to enhance the strength and resilience of individuals, regardless of age or ability, through innovative programs and support services.


The Elder Justice Social worker will report directly to the Elder Justice Program Director and/or Assistant Director. The position requires a Master’s Degree in Social Work or a related field with a minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in a social service/non-profit setting. Knowledge of domestic violence and/or older adult community-based services is preferred. In addition, the candidate must be comfortable with public speaking, conducting home visits, multi-tasking, team building, critical thinking, empathy, time management, cultural competency, and knowledge of using Microsoft office applications while working in a hybrid operation.


Job Description:
With a Hybrid work schedule, reporting to the office a minimum of twice per week or as assigned by the supervisor, the Elder Justice Social Worker is specifically responsible for the following:


  • Complete initial virtual phone assessments and develop safety plans for both Bronx and South Elder Justice Contracts;
  • Conduct home visits in the Bronx or Manhattan CD 12;
  • Attend Family/Housing court as needed in the Bronx or Manhattan CD 12;
  • Escort clients to NYPD Precincts as needed;
  • Assist with supporting and training peers/interns;
  • Maintain complete and well-written client case records;
  • Maintain a caseload with client contact activity every thirty days for program compliance;
  • Perform Intake on rotation as assigned;
  • Provide case assistance to victims of elder abuse, including information and referral, benefit and entitlement assistance, supportive contact, advocacy, counseling, crisis intervention, and followup;
  • Develop and Implement a minimum of two community prevention workshops activities (virtually and in-person) per fiscal year to the Bronx and Manhattan communities served;
  • Conduct outreach events during off hours when needed;
  • Attend periodic City Council meetings during off hours as assigned;
  • Report to assigned alternative office location as assigned by supervisor;
  • Identify and maintain collaborative relationships in the victim’s assistance network; provide information and referral to other appropriate agencies as needed and identify community resources for consultation and referral;
  • Attend periodic training and skill development workshops; participate in biweekly case consultations and supervision conferences as assigned;
  • Complete various worker logs, performance target outcome tracking, and statistical reports in a timely manner amongst other administrative requirements as assigned by a supervisor;
  • Participate in SHOPP staff training programs, staff meetings, Advisory Committee Meetings and other meetings as assigned;
  • Work cross-collaboratively with other key SHOPP staff in efforts to maximize SHOPP’s vision and mission in serving the community;
  • Involvement in a supervisory relationship with the PD/AD and accept peer-to-peer supervision;
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other agencies such as Adult Protective Services, NYPD, the Bronx/Manhattan District Attorney's Office, NYC Aging Elderly Justice Services to ensure that victims are provided with timely and effective intervention;
  • Participate in monthly Enhanced Multi-Disciplinary Team (EMDT) meetings;
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Program Director or Assistant Program Director.
