SJS is seeking a guidance counselor with excellent interpersonal skills. The counselor will be responsible for providing assistance to students with their social, emotional, spiritual and academic/vocational needs.

Essential responsibilities:

• Use school counseling research-based standards and competencies to implement a comprehensive school counseling framework
• Assist students in the areas of academic and career planning, as well as personal/social development
• Provide appraisal and advisement to all students through individual meetings, as well as large- and small-group and classroom settings
• Collaborate with teachers, families and other staff on identification of students’ academic and social-emotional needs and on intervention strategies
• Make appropriate referrals for students and parents to outside agencies and specialists
• Participate in activities that contribute to the effective operation of the school
• Develop and implement action plans aligned with student goals and data
• Participate in team meetings and ones to establish plans for students
• Monitor and advise students and their parents on how to progress toward promotion/graduation
• Develop a framework for students for graduation and post-high school activities
• Review and evaluate student transcripts
• Review credits, grades and transcripts with students, helping them meet graduation requirements and develop academic plans for success and future career planning

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in school counseling
• Master’s degree in school counseling from an accredited college or university preferred
• Ability to utilize technology and data to address student and departmental needs
• Ability to work cooperatively with school leadership, staff, families and the community
• Empathy and great interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Proficiency with basic computer software such as Word and Excel
• Experience working with children and adolescents
• Good classroom management skills
• Good teamwork abilities

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
