The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is looking for a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) Supervisor to join our team! The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) Supervisor works under the direction of the Operations Manager. The Behavioral Health Technician Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the 24-hour operations and performance of a team of Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) within a residential correctional healthcare setting. This role ensures that the team provides high-quality care and support to clients with mental health, substance use, and behavioral disorders. The Supervisor plays a key role in staff management, training, and development while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations and policies. This position requires the ability to serve as a BHT, when necessary, and provide 24 hour on call support to their team.

Your role in action:

  1. Staff Supervision and Management:

·        Supervise and provide guidance to a team of BHTs, ensuring they adhere to established protocols and deliver effective client care.

·        Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and develop action plans for improvement.

·        Coordinate staff schedules, including managing shift assignments and addressing coverage needs with the Lead BHT.

·        Foster a positive and productive work atmosphere through modeling professional behavior and encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations.

  1. Training and Development:

·        Develop training programs with the Operations Manager to ensure BHTs are knowledgeable about current best practices in behavioral health care.

·        Work closely with the Lead BHT to ensure that BHTs are trained properly

·        Provide ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance staff skills and competencies.

·        Works collaboratively with agency designated trainers to identify and provide job related trainings

·        Lead team meetings and in-service training sessions to foster a culture of continuous learning.

  1. Compliance and Quality Assurance:

·        Work closely with the DDRP Leadership team to ensure that all services provided by the BHTs meet regulatory standards and organizational policies.

·        Monitor and evaluate the quality of care provided by BHTs, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.

·        Maintain accurate documentation and reports, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.

  1. Client Care and Support:

·        Oversee the adherence of BHTs to the daily programming schedule.

·        Oversee ensuring that BHTs support the client’s individual needs and that they are met effectively and compassionately.

·        Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including therapists, nurses, and physicians, to coordinate comprehensive care.

·        Collaborate, when appropriate, with the other Harris County Residential Treatment Campus Providers (Community Supervision and Corrections Department (CSCD) and Gateway) personnel to coordinate comprehensive care.

·        Address any client concerns in a professional manner and escalate to appropriate team members as needed.

·        Collaborate with DDRP Leadership team to address client grievance and/or rights issues in a timely manner.

  1. Crisis Management:

·        Lead the response to emergency situations, providing direct intervention when necessary and ensuring the safety of clients and staff in collaboration with nursing and clinical.

·        Ensure implementation of crisis intervention strategies, including de-escalation techniques are done appropriately.

·        Lead debriefing with all appropriate staff after a crisis intervention incident.

·        Assists during adverse weather conditions including onsite presence as required.

  1. Administrative Duties

·        Assist in tracking expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.

·        Participate in recruitment, hiring, onboarding and terminating of new BHTs.

·        Prepare and submit regular reports to upper management on team performance, client outcomes, and other key metrics.

·        Valid Driver’s license and be able to transport patients via designated transport vehicle.

·        Acts as a backup to the Operations Manager.

·        Performs other duties as assigned.

What qualifications you will need:

Education:

·        Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, criminal justice, healthcare administration or a related field.

·        Equivalent work experience in behavioral health, correctional mental health, residential or a related field, may be considered if the bachelor’s degree is not in the preferred areas of study.

Experience:

·        Minimum of 3 years of experience in behavioral health, correctional mental health, residential or a related field, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

Other Key Qualifications:

·        Valid Driver’s license and be able to transport patients via designated transport vehicle.

 Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

·        Strong leadership and team management skills.

·        Effective communication (verbal and written) skills.

·        Positive interpersonal skills.

·        Well organized and self-directed.

·        Ability to coordinate and collaborate with other disciplines inter and intra agency wide.

·        Ability to handle high-stress situations and make sound decisions in emergencies.

·        Ability to de-escalate as part of client management.

·        Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

·        Basic Knowledge of behavioral health regulations, residential facility TAC rules and best practices.

·        Understanding of Standard Precautions and Infection Control Procedures

·        Knowledge of and the ability to apply Handle with Care Crisis Intervention Techniques (HWC III)

·        Ability to maintain professional behavior and provides excellent customer service to both staff and clients, along with interagency partners.

·        Demonstrate ethical conduct, professionalism and confidentiality in all activities.
