Job Announcement
This is a 40-hour per week intake officer position based at the Domestic Relations Court Services Unit, which provides intake and mediation services for domestic relations cases, including paternity, custody, visitation, child and spousal support, family abuse, abuse involving minor children and administrative tasks as assigned. Intake officers explain the court process, prepare petitions, make referrals to other services and fulfill obligations as a mandated reporter. Intake officers may also function as case managers for our mediation program, preparing and closing mediation cases.
This position will encounter a diverse clientele requiring socioeconomic and cultural sensitivity, and often the assistance of a language interpreter. Domestic Relations cases can be complex in nature as well as emotionally charged, requiring the intake officer to have excellent communication skills and the willingness to work collaboratively with partners, stakeholders, other county agencies and nonprofit organizations. Intake officers must be able to deal with a wide variety of people, some of whom are volatile and emotionally distraught. Intake officers must be able to multitask, prioritize and work within limited time constraints. Intake officers must possess and demonstrate ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in social/behavioral sciences, criminal justice, or education plus two years of professional experience in probation work, social work, criminal justice, juvenile justice, education, or counseling. A master's degree in the disciplines above may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services registry check, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A master's degree in a related area is preferred, or a combination of a bachelor's degree and two or more years of experience working with the public in a public services or nonprofit agency, a court agency or within the legal community.
- Experience working in case management and intakes.
- Experience working with Department of Juvenile Justice's Balanced Approach Data Gathering Environment (BADGE), and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Secure Viewing System (JSVS) software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams), Zoom, DocuSign, and Juvenile Domestic Appointment Calendar (JDAC) scheduling system.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to communicate well, both in person and over telephone.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Must have ability to lift files, supplies and materials up to 15 pounds.
- Ability to do a moderate level of walking on a daily basis.
- Requires the ability to travel to other work sites to attend meetings/training.
- The Intake Officer must have the ability to operate office equipment and use computer to enter data which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
- Work is generally sedentary in nature, however, visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitor and incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment.
