About FIND Outdoors:
FIND is a 50+-year-old nonprofit headquartered in Pisgah Forest, NC whose mission is to provide all people with education, recreational and interpretive opportunities about natural resources and cultural history. FIND Outdoors serves over 800,000 visitors each year with over 150 educational and recreational programs, special events, and tours, and manages recreation, education, and camping facilities in North Carolina, and Georgia. In addition, FIND offers our visitors forest- related gifts, education resources, and provides partnership opportunities for the health of our forests and the safety of our forest users on public and private lands.

About the Opportunity:

Explorers Club Counselor
FIND has an exciting opportunity for an Explorers Club Counselor. Explorers Club is an outreach of FIND Outdoors and provides high-adventure outdoor recreation trips for youth who have previously had limited access to such opportunities. These trips occur on local public lands at a minimum cadence of six through the May – November season, primarily occurring on the weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and instruct youth recreation trips
  • Provide positive mentorship and encouragement to build confidence and skill in youth participants
  • Maintain a fun, engaging, and inclusive atmosphere
  • Model best practices for safety and supervision
  • Set up and inspect necessary gear for safety and appropriateness; assist in the maintenance and storage of gear after recreation trips return

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Previous experience in youth development preferred.
  • Able to motivate and inspire youth toward a lifetime love of the outdoors.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Native Spanish speaker preferred, but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Competence in outdoor settings and proficiency in activities such as backpacking, kayaking, hiking, and biking.
  • Being able to move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

  • Weekends as needed
