About Job

Social Worker / Mental Health Counselor

Who we are:

St. Nicks Alliance, a North Brooklyn based community organization, seeks to transform lives of low- and moderate-income
people through employment, education, housing, elder care and social services. We do this by delivering impactful services
with measurable outcomes to children, adults, and the elderly. As a civic anchor, we carry out this mission within the context
of building a sustainable community for all people through the arts, environmental advocacy, and urban planning.

We are currently looking for a dedicated social worker or mental health counselor to join our team at an elementary school
in North Brooklyn.

What you’ll do:

• Manage a caseload of 25-35 students, providing trauma-informed individual and group counseling services
  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments and develop actionable, measurable service plans with short- and long-
term goals
  • Facilitate small group workshops and enrichment activities that promote socio-emotional development, self-
awareness, and resilience
  • Offer crisis intervention and behavioral support, both individually and in group settings
  • Provide referrals and advocacy for families to access mental health, housing, employment, and other critical

resources

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with students, families, school staff, afterschool program staff, and external
partners
  • Participate in monthly case conferences with school leadership and program leadership to review progress and align
interventions.
  • Serve as a mandated reporter, ensuring timely and appropriate action following agency protocols
  • Represent St. Nicks Alliance at community school meetings, staff meetings, and cross-agency

collaborations

Data, Reporting & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely case records using the organization’s Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) system.
  • Collect and utilize performance data to continuously improve services and demonstrate impact.
  • Conduct and document quarterly SEL (Social Emotional Learning) assessments according to benchmarks.
  • Ensure all services meet funder requirements and organizational quality standards.
  • Actively contribute to division-wide leadership meetings and learning communities.

What we are looking for:

• Master’s degree in social work (MSW), mental health counseling, psychology, or related field.
  • Licensed or license-eligible (LMSW, LMHC, LCSW, or equivalent)
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience providing counseling to elementary-aged youth in school or community- based
settings
  • Deep understanding of trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strength-based practices
  • Proven ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and school staff
  • Strong documentation, data entry, and case management skills.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills

Preferred

• Experience facilitating socio-emotional groups and workshops
  • Familiarity with NYC schools and community resources
  • Bilingual (Spanish English) strongly preferred

What’s in it for you:

• Compensation range: $65,000 - $70,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
  • Full-time exempt position
  • Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan)
  • 12 company paid holidays, paid vacation, sick, and personal time off
