Job Description
Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, is seeking three full-time Counseling faculty members to start in August 2025. We are committed to supporting student retention, persistence, and completion. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides academic advising and counseling through on campus, in-person and virtual (e.g., live chat, email, web conference) individual and group meetings to diverse and unique student populations including but not limited to first-year, international, English as a second language, students with disabilities, first-generation, active duty/veteran, adult learners, student athletes, dual enrollment, undecided and transfer students.
- Assists students with academic, career, and social development in pursuit of their personal, educational, transfer, and professional goals.
- Provides short-term interventions, support, follow-up, and referrals to college and community resources when students exhibit behaviors of concern or are experiencing developmental and/or emotional problems affecting academic performance.
- Uses designated technologies and advising systems, such as student information systems (e.g., Banner), advising platforms (e.g., Starfish, Degree Works), communication platforms (e.g., Zoom, Live Chat), and learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard).
- Serves as student advocate as it relates to academic regulations and College policies and procedures, and/or other related referrals that support a positive campus experience.
- Collaborates with instructional faculty, administrators, staff and community partners to support student success initiatives.
- Teaches Student Success (STSU) courses.
- Prepares and delivers workshops, trainings and other various outreach needs to support student success.
- Stays current in field and continues to grow and develop as an educator to increase knowledge and enhance teaching ability both in and out of the classroom.
- Provides service to the college and community through active membership and leadership in the Counseling & Advising discipline, Student Affairs division, campus, and College councils, committees or work groups and professional organizations.
- Takes an active role in supporting Counseling & Advising discipline/department outreach initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in counseling or a closely related field.
- Teaching experience at the college or secondary level.
- Two years of counseling experience or experience providing brief, solution-focused mental health services to a diverse, young adult population.
- Experience working with diverse student populations such as first-year, international, English as a second language, students with disabilities, first-generation, active duty/veteran, adult learners, student athletes, dual enrollment, undecided, career, and transfer students.
- Knowledge of mental health issues, counseling theories, and student development theories.
- A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching or professional practice.
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of teaching experience at the college or secondary level.
- Two years of experience providing brief personal counseling and referrals for students in distress or crisis.
Hiring Range is $62,319 to $93,020, annually.

- Participation in a retirement plan (Pension or Optional Retirement Plan, depending on the position). If you are already retired from the Maryland State Retirement System, you may not enroll in a Maryland State Retirement System plan at Montgomery College and may have earnings restrictions, per state law.
