JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Addiction Counselor is responsible for the management of the Program. Provides individual and group counseling to participants, which includes presenting educational lectures, leading process groups, formulating and reviewing individualized treatment plans, and maintains progress notes. The Addiction Counselor must be able to communicate effectively with participants and maintain linkage with related organizations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Implements program goals.
  • Assists staff in clinical matters and responsibilities.
  • Audits case files to ensure compliance with agency and SUPR standards.
  • Conducts didactic groups and provides individual counseling.
  • Conducts DUI services, as needed.
  • Conducts services off-site, in homes and the community, if applicable.
  • Performs intakes and assessments, as needed.
  • Assists with conducting weekly staffing.
  • Assists compilation and distribution of weekly reports to PA.
  • Responsible for an assigned caseload, documents including discharge plans and monitor progress and response of participant to treatment.
  • Provide an initial individual orientation for each new participant.
  • Completes documentation of participants in the clinical records daily.
  • Completes assessments of participants substance abuse history, develops treatment plans.
  • Contacts participant’s case worker/referral source within the first week of treatment.
  • Provides each participant with written treatment verification, if requested.
  • Provides support for re-entry navigation based on participants’ identified area of need using scales to determine Barriers to Reentry and SDoH (JAC program specific).
  • Provides referral sources to participants when needed.
  • Presents cases at clinical staffing.
  • Maintains participant records in accordance with agency standards.
  • Complies with agency policies and procedures.
  • Participates in regular agency staff meetings and training.
  • Participates in agency fundraising efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Program Manager.
  • Intake responsibilities as requested.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of substance abuse and its modalities of treatment.
  • Must have knowledge of ASAM criteria and DMS V diagnosis.
  • Must have knowledge of DHS regulations (2060/2090) and CARF.
  • Knowledge of Illinois DUI laws.
  • Bilingual/Bicultural (English/Spanish) required.
  • Possess knowledge of mental illness and diagnosis, preferred.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Applications.
  • Must possess excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be adaptable, organized, and a team player in a fast-paced and demanding work environment.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objective without supervision.
  • Flexible to adapt to schedules and workload to the needs and demands of the program.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License and willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment.
  • Have knowledge of evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing and CBT (Madden/Read location specific)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in the Social or Human Sciences of Social Work from a regionally accredited educational institution which has U.S. Department of Education approval preferred, or a minimum of high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must be certified by IAODAPCA
  • Must have at least two (2) years of counseling experience in substance abuse and be MISA (mental health) certified, if applicable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
