Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Counselor to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in providing support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges as well as substance abuse issues. You will work closely with patients, assisting them in their recovery journey while ensuring their safety and well-being. This position requires a strong commitment to patient care and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care, including monitoring and documenting patient behavior and progress.
  • Assist in individual and group counseling sessions, facilitating discussions and activities that promote mental wellness.
  • Conduct patient assessments to identify needs and develop appropriate care plans.
  • Engage in crisis management techniques to de-escalate potentially volatile situations.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation regarding patient interactions, treatment plans, and progress notes.
  • Collaborate with social workers and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive case management for patients.
  • Offer grief counseling support as needed, helping patients navigate their emotional responses.
  • Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment by adhering to hospital protocols and procedures.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting, particularly within mental health or social work, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with crisis management strategies and patient assessment techniques is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills are essential for effective interaction with patients, families, and team members.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, patience, and understanding while working with diverse populations facing mental health challenges.
  • Knowledge of medical documentation practices is beneficial for maintaining accurate records.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse disorders and experience working with individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse issues is preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $32.00 - $39.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
