Position Overview
The Youth & Family Peer Mentor/Specialist at Radiant Health Solution provides culturally-responsive support to children, youth, and families facing emotional and behavioral challenges. Drawing upon your own lived experience as either a young person who has navigated support systems or as a parent/caregiver who has supported a child through similar journeys, you will offer hope, guidance, and practical assistance to help others develop personalized strategies for managing challenges, building resilience, and achieving goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish supportive, trust-based relationships with children, youth, and families through shared lived experience
- Provide individualized mentoring that meets children and families "where they are" in homes, schools, and community settings
- Help youth and families develop personalized strategies for managing stress, building resilience, and achieving goals
- Facilitate connections between families facing similar situations to create peer-to-peer support networks
- Connect families to community resources, educational opportunities, and support services across New York State
- Advocate for youth and families within various systems (healthcare, education, child welfare, etc.)
- Document interactions and progress according to program requirements while maintaining confidentiality
- Model effective coping skills, stress management techniques, and healthy family communication
- Provide educational support to help families understand their child's needs and strengths
- Conduct outreach activities to engage diverse communities in culturally-responsive services
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education beneficial but not required
- Cultural competence and ability to work effectively with diverse populations
- Strong communication and active listening skills
- Knowledge of children's emotional wellness, family systems, and resilience-building approaches
- Basic computer skills for documentation and communication
- Commitment to ongoing personal wellness and professional development
