Title: School Social Worker

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Month

REPORTS TO: Building Principal TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
  • Provide regular counseling to students in need of social and emotional support in an educational setting; this includes both mandated counseling to students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) as well as individual and group counseling to other students as needed.
  • Act as liaison between community-based organizations, students and their families, and the BOCES
  • Create programs for students to promote emotional and mental health
  • Respond to day-to-day issues and unanticipated student crises during the school day
  • Facilitate the completion of functional behavioral assessments (fba) and behavior intervention plans (bip)

REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience as a Social Worker/School Psychologist/School Counselor
  • Working knowledge of the instructional and social needs of students at risk and students with disabilities
  • Ability to design and implement in-school prevention programming according to current best practices
  • Ability to simultaneously manage a regular counseling schedule and triage crises
  • Ability to prioritize multiple competing urgent tasks

Ideal candidates will have strong interpersonal skills, expertise in behavioral modification, crisis intervention, de-escalation, and special education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: NYS Certified School Social Worker, School Counselor, or School Psychologist
