Primary Purpose:
Perform professional psychological work in assessment, behavior management, and counseling for students with emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, and behavioral problems. Assess the psychological and psycho-educational needs of students referred to special education services.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree in psychology from accredited college or university
Valid Texas license as a licensed specialist in school psychology (LSSP) or Trainee Status Letter issued by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of procedures for assessing achievement and intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning for educational purposes
Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions
Knowledge of psycho-social development
Excellent public relations, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students
Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff
Experience:
Minimum two years teaching experience preferred
Minimum one year experience providing psychology services in an educational setting
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Evaluation
- Select and administer assessments and observations to evaluate the intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of referred students. Determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and state regulations and Lovejoy ISD evaluation procedures.
- Coordinate and collaborate with campus staff and other multi-disciplinary team members during the evaluation process in order to ensure a complete, comprehensive evaluation of each student. Evaluate each student’s present levels of academic achievement and functional performance with respect to emotional and behavioral needs.
- Score and interpret assessment data according to the guidelines of the profession and consistent with Lovejoy ISD evaluation procedures.
- Develop psychological evaluation reports, functional behavioral analysis reports, and behavior management plans.
- Develop written evaluation reports that meet federal and state regulations and are consistent with Lovejoy ISD evaluation procedures. Provide data explaining the reason for the student’s academic difficulties and make recommendations for staff to address these difficulties regardless of whether the student has a disabling condition.
- Conduct or participate in Evaluation Review Committee (as assigned) and Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.
- Evaluate student progress toward mastery of adopted goals and objectives.
Consultation
8. Meet with parents to discuss pertinent background information and test results. Conduct group, individual, and family counseling sessions and facilitative therapy for students with diagnosed problems.
9. Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of students, interpretation of assessment data, and implementation of behavior intervention plans in managing disruptive students.
10. Evaluate student progress and participate in updating student progress toward mastery of adopted goals and objectives according to district and campus timelines.
11. Consult with psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and community agencies concerning intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students as needed.
12. Present staff development training in assigned schools to enable school personnel to identify and work more effectively with students with emotional, social, and behavioral disturbances.
13. Serve as consultant on mental health topics for instructors in the school health program.
Program Management
14. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of psychological services and assessment procedures and make recommendations based on findings.
15. Participate in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.
16. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including case records, test results, statistical data, and test inventories.

17. Maintain confidentiality and comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education Rule, and Local Board Policy.
18. Demonstrate superior customer service with district staff, students, and community stakeholders.
19. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
20. Follow all federal, state, and local procedures and meet established timelines.
