Position Purpose:
The Mental Health Therapist / Team Lead (AMFT) will provide individual therapy, case management, and group services at our Women and Children’s Residential Treatment program in South Los Angeles. The Therapist / Team Lead will deliver trauma-informed, gender-responsive care using evidence-based practices, including Matrix, Seeking Safety, Helping Women Recover, and Parenting programs.
This position supports JWCH’s mission to improve the health status and well-being of underserved populations in Los Angeles County through direct care, health education, supportive services, and research. The role is funded by the Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) program through Los Angeles County.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Maintain a client caseload in accordance with grant or contract requirements.
- Facilitate groups such as Substance Abuse Education, Matrix, Seeking Safety, Parenting, and others.
- Conduct mental health assessments, therapeutic interventions, and clinical evaluations.
- Collaborate with the treatment team to deliver comprehensive services to women and children.
- Regularly assess and provide case management services to assigned clients.
- Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with team members and clients.
- Participate in clinical meetings, case reviews, and team huddles.
- Document all services provided within 24 hours using the Electronic Health Record (SAGE/PCNX)
- Maintain and update client records as required.
- Support client participation in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Complete data collection forms and submit reports as required by the program.
- Coordinate with JWCH physicians and external resources to ensure linkages to community services.
- Provide phone consultations as needed.
- Attend community and agency-related meetings; share relevant updates with the team.
- Uphold the program’s quality assurance standards.
- Support leadership with program development strategies.
- Work one weekend day per week.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited institution.
- Current AMFT registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
- Experience working with women, children, and families affected by homelessness, child welfare involvement, substance use, mental illness, poverty, and/or incarceration.
- Knowledge and training in evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Matrix, Seeking Safety, and Motivational Interviewing.
- Understanding of family systems theory, especially in the context of pregnant and postpartum women and their children.
- Demonstrated understanding of the impact of trauma on behavioral and medical conditions.
- Cultural competence in working with minority, low-income, and vulnerable populations.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a clinical team.
- Strong documentation, oral, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer use and electronic records.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) ability preferred.
