SUMMARY

Family Service League is seeking a full-time Activities Coordinator for a homeless shelter in Huntington. The Activities Coordinator will be responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating shelter recreation programs. The Activities Coordinator will also assist with case management, as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Activities Coordinator will develop, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a variety of recreation programs, including special events.
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing recreation services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
  • Participate in the development of recreation program goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures.
  • Make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies, and procedures in the recreation program.
  • The Activities Coordinator will participate in the implementation of approved policies and procedures.
  • Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Identify shelter recreation needs and recommend appropriate programs.
  • Conduct and supervise special events; develop contracts and hire contracted instructors.
  • The Activities Coordinator will prepare purchase requisitions to order supplies and materials.
  • Respond to complaints and requests for information.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings; maintain awareness of new trends and developments in the recreation field; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs.
  • Manage donations received and donation closet.
  • Transport clients to events via Agency vehicle.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s or Bachelor's degree preferred.

1 year of experience in human services preferred, but not required.

Prior experience working with the homeless population is also a plus.

Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, required.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required.

Valid and clean NYS Driver’s License required.

Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time, as well as moderate lifting.
