JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Radiology Director and Staff Radiologist, the Ultrasound Tech performs a variety of diagnostic imaging procedures using advanced radiology equipment. This role includes preparing patients for examinations, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process.

The Ultrasound Tech must maintain certifications in at least three additional modalities and provide essential diagnostic support to physicians by conducting organ or body scans. Responsibilities also include administering and documenting isotope dosages per departmental protocols, closely monitoring patients during procedures, and promptly reporting any abnormal activity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Obtains and verifies appropriate physician order.
  • Obtains appropriate medical history before patient examination.
  • Prepares patients for their examinations.
  • Performs appropriate diagnostic procedures as ordered.
  • Assists radiologist when performing special procedures and fluoroscopy.
  • Maintains cleanliness of all radiology equipment rooms.
  • Maintains adequate stock of supplies in assigned room.
  • Properly makes exposures to produce imaging of diagnostic quality.
  • Performs appropriate modality procedures per protocols.
  • Performs PACS function and burn CD’s.
  • Performs I.V. injections in a proficient manner, when required by modality. (CT, MRI)
  • Performs multiple modalities exams per department routine.
  • Ensures that expenditures for job related activities are within budgetary constraints.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all personnel and patient care and relations information.
  • Actively participates in Customer/Guest Relations and Mandatory Education programs.
  • Review of patient records for information needed for procedures (i.e. labs, previous exams, etc.)
  • Utilizes HIS and ED computer charting systems to obtain and chart pertinent information for imaging and transportation purposes.
  • Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.
  • Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education
    • Graduate from a School of Radiology Technology or Credentialed Nuclear Medicine Imaging program
  • Licensure
    • Certified/licensed by the State of Wyoming and ARRT.
  • Certifications required
    • See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy and Certifications/Education Requirements Policy.
  • Experience
    • Experience in three additional modalities: CT, MRI, Mammography, or other national certification recognized by the ARRT. Candidate must hold certification at time of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • The ability to maintain continuing education requirements and all certifications and licenses as required (e.g. ACLS, PALS, CPI, CPR) to maintain professional license.
  • Licensed professionals must strictly adhere to the ethical code of their respective discipline.
  • Ability to perform examinations using complex equipment requiring precise calibrations and giving injections
  • Ability to speak clearly to communicate with patients, families, physicians and staff regarding patient’s condition, etc.
  • Ability to develop positive interaction with patients, patients’ families, and staff to effectively care for the patients.
  • Ability to professionally deal with and resolve complex problems involving patient, families, physicians, and co-workers.
  • Must be able to analyze and manipulate numbers, percentages, and indexes from equipment for procedures.
  • Must have ability to explain procedures to patients. Requires higher level of mental faculties accompanied by short-term memory.
  • Analytical and reasoning skills with a high level of mental concentration and memory.
  • Computer knowledge including the ability to enter material into electronic record. Ability to operate fax, computer, and copy machine to perform the duties of the position.
  • The ability to demonstrate knowledge of developmental stages and apply developmental theories/concepts when planning and implementing care for the appropriate age of the patient. Ability to maintain the appropriate level of knowledge and skills.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in the following age groups:
    • Infant (Neonate to Age 1)
    • Pediatric (Age 1-11)
    • Adolescent (12-18)
    • Adult (19-64)
    • Geriatric (Age 65 and older)
