Anticipated Hiring Range: $38,000 - $42,000

Work Schedule: M-F 8AM-5PM; some evenings and weekends on occasion required (for travel and special events)

The primary function of the Undergraduate Admissions office is to identify, attract, and enroll first-year and transfer students with outstanding academic ability and potential. The department’s efforts are commensurate with NC State University’s annual and long-term enrollment goals for the University.

Are you passionate about higher education and helping students find their path to success? We are hiring three Admissions Counselors at NC State. In this role, you’ll get to be a part of a team that is involved in recruiting, guiding, and enrolling the next class of talented students. You’ll be the face of NC State, connecting with prospective students, families, and school counselors to share what makes our university a top choice. This role blends customer service, application review, and outreach efforts to ensure we attract and support an academically strong student body.



What You’ll Do:

  • Represent NC State at high school visits, college fairs, and recruitment events across North Carolina and beyond.
  • Counsel prospective students and families on academic programs, admission requirements, and the application process.
  • Deliver engaging campus presentations and information sessions for visitors.
  • Review first-year and transfer applications, assessing academic credentials holistically to make informed admission decisions.
  • Manage customer service inquiries via phone, email, and in person, ensuring a seamless experience for students and families.
  • Assist with office operations, including processing applications, transfer credit evaluations, and administrative tasks.
  • Travel extensively for recruitment, including occasional weekends, and engage in public speaking to share the NC State experience.
  • Collaborate with school counselors and college-access organizations to strengthen outreach efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.



Other Required Qualifications:

  • Strong decision-making, analytical, and counseling skills, with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in a competitive admissions environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration, creativity, and teamwork while providing exceptional service to students and stakeholders.
  • Highly organized with strong time management skills to meet deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, with the ability to quickly learn and navigate database management tools.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex academic and administrative policies accurately and consistently.
  • Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential student records, personnel matters, and organizational information.
  • Flexibility to travel extensively and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
