Job Title: Community Liaison and Legislative Aide
Location: District Office: 322 8th Avenue, New York, NY
Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal is a senior member of the New York Democratic Senate Majority and Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee who represents 47th Senate District on the West Side of Manhattan.
Brad is seeking a community liaison and legislative aide who would play a crucial role in assisting constituents navigate government services, advocating for their interests, and supporting the office’s legislative efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a liaison to community groups and advise on responses to local issues
- Write talking points and background memos for the senator and senior staff
- Conduct research and compile information on legislative and community issues
- Attend Community Board 7 meetings hearings, press conferences and public forums. Some evening work will be required
- Provide direct assistance to constituents in navigating government agencies programs, and services at the local and state level. This includes addressing concerns related to housing, healthcare, social services, and other relevant issues
- Manage a caseload of constituent cases, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution of inquiries and concerns. Keep detailed records of interactions and outcomes to track progress and identify trends
- Remain current on the legislative and policy agenda, and serve as a resource regarding those issues for the local community and colleagues
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in constituent services, social services, advocacy, or community organizing is highly preferred
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage and track multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal government structure, processes, and resources; or commitment to learning
Salary & Benefits:
- Salary range from $55,000 to $60,000.
