RESPONSIBILITIES:


This position provides leadership and management to the designated program areas including APS Intake, Durham County Social Services After Hours, Guardianship, APS Assessment, APS treatment, In-Home Aid and review and recommend policies and procedures of the division.


This position oversees the various program areas within Adult Protective Services in Durham County, this position embodies strong leadership qualities essential for guiding and motivating a dedicated team. Central to their role is the assessment and assurance of safety protocols and standards across all service provisions. They actively engage in developing and implementing community outreach strategies, working closely with the Program Manager to promote the health, safety, and well-being of aging, disabled, and vulnerable adults. Regular team meetings and individual supervision sessions are conducted to foster a culture of continuous improvement and to address any emerging concerns promptly. This supervisor plays a pivotal role in policy review and development, ensuring that all practices align with current regulations and best practices, while also championing a compassionate and effective approach to Adult Protective Services.

APS Supervisor will provide guidance and oversight of DSS on call system. APS supervisor is responsible for providing crisis intervention information, intake screening, guardianship and APS knowledge to DSS after hours.**


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge of Adult Protective Services policy and procedures
  • Knowledge of Guardianship policy, and social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to individual casework, group work, and community problems.
  • Considerable knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training.
  • Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems.
  • Considerable knowledge of crisis intervention, protective services and social casework on a voluntary or involuntary basis to a caseload of mentally and physically impaired, abused, and/or neglected older and disable clients, in accordance with the standards of local, and state policies.
  • Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern social work programs.
  • Skill in supervising, training, or orienting social workers III, students, interns, or other staff.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.
  • Office Technology – Microsoft Office 365
  • Organizational Skills – time management, prioritizing projects and problems
  • Planning – developing plans to accomplish work operations and objectives


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a master’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
