Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Member of the Unit Team that provides case management of residents related to the correctional rules and regulations; develops educational and reentry plans; participates on related unit team committees; writes progress reports on residents for review by unit team supervisor/manager. Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for performing all duties through a team approach to risk management that addresses criminogenic risks and needs.
  • The work requires ongoing proactive communication and interaction with residents.
  • Assists residents assigned to case load with adjustment to incarceration, program completion, rule compliance, release planning and reintegration into the community.
  • Utilizes and demonstrates risk reduction skills including motivational interviewing and cognitive strategies.
  • Attends Kansas Parole Board hearing for assigned residents.
  • Assists uniformed security staff in times of emergency.


Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor's degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences. Approved substitutions as determined relevant by the agency.
    • Substitutions
      • 60 semester hours of coursework from an accredited college or university, including 12 hours in corrections, criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and one (1) year of experience in the field of corrections or case management OR
      • 30 semester hours of coursework from an accredited college or university, including 6 hours in corrections, criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and two (2) years of experience in the field of adult corrections or case management OR
      • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent and three (3) years of experience in the field of adult corrections or case management
  • Licensing & Certification: Driver's License

  • Minimum Qualifications: Applicant will be able to interact with co-workers, residents, and outside personnel to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Applicant selected will have strong organizational skills and function with minimal supervision and direction.

  • Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to those applicants with previous experience in corrections.

  • Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must take and pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services. Must pass a physical exam, background investigation and submit a State of Kansas Tax Clearance.
