School/College/Division Description
The Student Health and Wellness Center provides integrated, holistic care for students through our medical, counseling, and health promotion and wellness departments. We assist the UWM campus community through collaborative partnerships designed to enhance the university’s academic and community service mission and focus on our student’s wellbeing as an essential component to student success.
Job Summary
Our Counselors provide professional mental health counseling and consultation services for the campus community, incorporating a brief therapeutic model to address the emotional and behavioral needs of students. Additionally, this position creates developmental programming to increase healthy lifestyle and coping behaviors across campus, and provides strategic direction and advocacy for university mental health policy and initiatives.

This position is a full-time 9-month fixed-term renewable position with a seasonal work break over the summer (6/1-8/31).

The position features regular, predictable hours, no weekends, and excellent benefits including employer-matched retirement savings and more than 30 days of paid leave annually.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Independently licensed or licensed eligible in the state of Wisconsin as a LPC, LMFT or LCSW by date of hire (expected August 2024)
  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling or related field
  • Experience providing therapy in a mental health setting
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 years or more of independent clinical practice as an LPC, LMFT or LCSW
  • Experience providing clinical supervision of mental health treatment to trainees or unlicensed staff
  • Experience working with BIPOC populations
  • Experience treating clients with eating disorders
  • Experience working with LGBTQ populations
  • Experience in sports psychology or treating athletes
  • Experience working with the college student population
  • Experience working with high risk and high acuity populations
  • Experience providing brief treatment
  • Experience providing crisis intervention treatment
  • Ability to provide bi-lingual treatment in Spanish and/or have expertise working with the Latinx population
  • Ability to collaborate effectively on a multidisciplinary team with other staff and positively contribute to a client care team
Target Salary Range Initial wage starts at $63,000-$65,000 annually Benefits and Total Rewards
